Spotlight on The Michael Levin Lone Soldier Center

Are you a lone soldier in the IDF? Discover the incredible work of The Michael Levin Base and how “Beit Eli” is joining the mission to support soldiers with resources, guidance, and community

The Challenge of Being a Lone Soldier in Israel

Serving in the IDF is a demanding experience for any young Israeli, but for a lone soldier, the challenge is uniquely complex. Being far from family, navigating a new language, dealing with bureaucracy, and coming home to an empty apartment after weeks on base requires immense mental strength.

This is where support organizations step in, ensuring that no soldier feels truly alone. Leading this mission is one of the most prominent organizations in Israel: The Lone Soldier Center in Memory of Michael Levin.

The Legacy of Michael Levin

The center was established in memory of Michael Levin, a lone soldier from Philadelphia who fell in battle during the Second Lebanon War (2006). Michael’s story became a symbol of Zionism and sacrifice. His dream was to create a place that would provide lone soldiers with what he and his friends often lacked: a supportive community, guidance, and a true sense of home.

How The Center Helps Soldiers

Operating nationwide (with hubs in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and more), The Michael Levin Center provides a holistic support system:

  • Pre-Draft Guidance: Assisting with the draft process, bureaucracy, and visas.
  • Community & Meals: Organizing massive Shabbat and holiday meals so no soldier celebrates alone.
  • Housing & Equipment: Helping soldiers find apartments and furnishing them with donated goods.
  • Emotional Support: Providing advisors and mentors who understand the unique struggles of lone soldiers.

“Beit Eli” and the Shared Mission

Here at “Beit Eli,” we view the holy work of The Michael Levin Center as a major inspiration. We share a common goal: to embrace lone soldiers with love and ensure they have every tool necessary to succeed in their service and integrate into Israeli society.

While The Michael Levin Center provides a broad community framework, we at “Beit Eli” focus on providing accessible digital information / connecting soldiers with host families / specific financial aid / and being a resource hub for soldiers in the field

We believe that spreading awareness is key. If you are a lone soldier, know that you have an address. Whether through the extensive activities of The Michael Levin Center or through the resources we offer at “Beit Eli” – we are here for you.
